Welcome!

Black Lives Matter.

My name is Andrew Kobin, a mathematician and lover of learning. Currently, I am a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Mathematics at Emory University. In 2024, I will be joining the Center for Communications Research in La Jolla, CA, as a Research Staff Member.

I earned my Ph.D. in mathematics in May 2020 at the University of Virginia. Previously, I earned my B.S. (‘13, Mathematics and Spanish) as well as my M.A. (‘15, Mathematics) at Wake Forest University.

My research statement, publications and course notes are all available under Research. You can find a schedule of my upcoming talks under Activities.

The Emory Algebra & Number Theory Seminar meets on Tuesdays at 4pm in the Math & Science Center (room W303).

For fellow early career mathematicians: Kristin DeVleming has created a list of tips on how to manage your early career during the Covid-19 pandemic. This also appears in her article for the Early Career section of the AMS Notices and most of the advice is highly valuable in post-pandemic times.

Over the last few years, some collaborators and I have hosted a panel series, “Lunch in the Time of Covid”, to highlight issues affecting early career mathematicians during the pandemic. Kristin and I also wrote an article for the Early Career section of the AMS Notices.
